Reading Notes: California and the Old Southwest, Part B

For Part B of this unit, I think the coyote stories (Coyote and the Hare, Coyote and the Fawns, and Coyote and the Quails) would be most fun to retell. In all three of these stories, Coyote accosts the respective animal(s) but is handily tricked and defeated (mostly due to his own stupidity in Wile-E-Coyote-esque fashion). I think there is excellent opportunity here for a retelling with a bit more dialogue (and inner thought monologues) that give the Coyote and his would be victims a bit more character.
