Reading Notes: King Arthur, Part A

From Part A of the King Arthur unit, the story I most want to retell is that of "The Drawing of the Sword," also commonly known as "The Sword in the Stone." This, of course, is the story of how Arthur becomes king, drawing the titular sword from the stone with ease. A feat no other knight could achieve, no matter how they tried.

Something I've always found funny is the concept of a really strong guy just lifting the sword and the stone altogether, and I'd love to write a version where that is exactly what happens. Obviously he would then have to get the sword out of the stone somehow, the most enjoyable way would probably be smashing it over someone's head. Perhaps an enemy kingdom is attacking, and a large farmhand or blacksmith's apprentice without a weapon stumbles upon the sword at the center of town and picks it up to defend himself. We'll see.
